Why have a media kit?

Having a media kit, aka a deck for your podcast is paramount. A marketing deck for a podcast is a visual presentation that highlights the key elements of the podcast and its target audience, as well as the marketing strategies that will be used to promote it.

 

The purpose of a marketing deck is to provide potential guests, advertisers, sponsors, and investors with a clear and compelling overview of the podcast and its potential for success.

Preparation is key...

The importance of marketing a podcast cannot be overstated. With the number of podcasts on the rise, it has become increasingly difficult for new shows to stand out and attract a sizable audience. Effective marketing can help a podcast gain visibility, attract listeners, and ultimately generate revenue through advertising and sponsorships.

One key aspect to think about when creating a marketing deck for a podcast is identifying the target audience. This includes demographics such as age, gender, location, and interests, as well being able to elaborate on the specific niche or topic that the podcast covers.

The process

 

The first step is using the right tools to create a deck. I prefer using Canva Pro since it is great for templates, colors, and features that will make your deck stand out and look professional.

Ultimately a deck is a marketing tool and so it has to be clear and concise. Collating all the information in the right order also matters. Your podcast stats, demographics and listener reach should be included in the deck as well as your brand's backstory and mission statement. The show itself needs to be introduced as well as the host, and there should be a clear call to action. If you have had some guests on your show, it is common to have a page dedicated to them so the viewer of your deck can form an opinion on your guest choices. Last but not least, there should be a page dedicated to contact information and how sponsors can work with your brand's podcast.

Another important aspect of marketing a podcast with a deck is providing the finished deck to other podcasters and influencer; building relationships by collaborating with other podcasts or reaching out to influencers in the industry, will help you grow your listenership base in new circles.

Podcasts can also approach or be approached by sponsors who wish to advertise on your podcast, or perhaps they might want you to interview specific guests for them in a special series. These are often companies who are on board with what your brand's podcast stands for, and because they feel your listenership base would help them to sell their own products.
